General

- 201 Registrations to date

- Approximately a dozen uniforms were not turned in last year, mostly 8th graders and some 7th graders.  Board voted to purchase 4 new sets of uniforms for the upcoming season which will be issued to 3 girls MYBA teams and the 8th grade boys travel team.

- Tim and Chris Schoberg attended a CCBL meeting, cost this year will be $800.00 per team.

-  Chris set a tentative picture date with Pictures-R-Us for Saturday January 9, 2010

- Tryout dates/evaluations will be held October 19th - 23rd.

- A basket bingo fundraiser will be held in February.  Chris Smith will contact Kathy Garvis to go over details.

- Dan Warthan is lineing up CPR training for MYBA refs.  We will also do background checks on referees this season.

Ryan Kimball (FSK varsity coach) wants to offer our program a coach's clinic(11/13 possible date), submitted a FSK drill book for coaches, also would like to get the Eagles basketball club affiliated w/TAYB and offer 6th and 7th graders to play on a summer team.

Thank you to The Lions Club who donated $250.00 to TAYB.

Registration dates are as follows:

Mt. St. Mary's clinics will be on Sept 23rd for 1st-2nd graders(6:00-7:30) and 5th-6th graders(7:30-9:00) and Sept. 24th for 3rd-4th graders and 7th-8th graders.

September 21st is available for boy's open gym

September 22nd is available for girl's open gym

Kelly will check the cost comparison to buy or to repair and the numbers on 4 team sets of uniforms.

Chris Schoberg will notify CCBL that Taneytown will be back for the upcoming season

Chris will also line up picture day for the 2nd Saturday in January if possible through Pictures-R-Us

Tryout dates/evaluations are as follows:  Oct 19th and 22nd (3rd-4th graders) and Oct 20th and 21st (5th-8th graders)

The Summer clinic/3 on 3 tournament was a success.  Good feedback from the parents and the kids really enjoyed it.  Board will look into expanding it next year.

Tryout dates and evaluations are tentatively set for the week of Oct 19th.  Practice for travel teams would start the last week of October or beginning of November.

We are looking into alternative fund raisers to the basket bingo:  possibilities are sub sales, lotto tickets, and/or a breakfast.  TAYB apparel will be offered again hopefully before the holidays.

Chris Smith redrafted the bylaws, they were reviewed and approved.  Notable changes include:  Added equipment manager, added MYBA coordinator, redefined rolls of coordinators; president will break ties in voting.

Summer clinic/3 on 3 tournaments was discussed:  Bob Mitchell has given us permission to use the Taneytown Memorial Park court when we want it.  Clinic to consist of:  practice on Thursday July 30th, scrimmages on July 31st, and 3 on 3 tournaments on Saturday August 1.  Chris Schoberg will make up a flyer for mass e-mail.  Medals will be given for 1st and 2nd place tournament teams; fee is $10.00 per player.  More info will be on the flyer.

General

Spring clinic was successful with good feedback from parents.  We averaged (18) 3rd-5th graders and (10)  6th-7th graders per night.  No 8th graders attended.  There is a lot of parents inquiring about a summer clinic.  Chris Schoberg has contacted Bob Mitchell about use of the court at Memorial Park and Bob likes the idea and is open for discussion about possible dates.  Chris will call Bob about July 30-August 1st to hold a (2) night clinic and (1) day 3 on 3 tournament on Saturday.

Division coordinators will be appointed by the board at the July meeting.

Chris Smith redrafted the bylaws and submitted, they will be voted on at the July meeting.

Banquet/trophy ceremonies went well.  Thank you to Kathy Garvis for organizing and all others who helped.

Spring clinic began last night (Tuesday May 5th).  1st night was a success.  We had 18 show up for 3rd-5th grade group and 12 for 6th-8th.

The following nominees were voted to board positions:  President - Chris Smith, VP - Suede Baker, Secretary - Chris Schoberg, Treasurer - Kathryn Fostik. 

Motion was approved for Chris Smith to draft up revisions to bylaws to reorganize board positions/add coordinators.

Varsity coach at FSK High contacted Tim about coming out to clinics or preseason activities to communicate what the High School will be looking for in players.

Some 7th-8th grade girls are playing for Littlestown in a summer league.

Suede is going to store equipment.

5th-8th grade in-house -  Board voted for no post-season tournament at March meeting.  No one reported any complaints from parents about this decision.

MYBA - 7th-8th grade girls were champs of their division, 3rd-4th grade girls was runner up in their division up

CCBL travel is over.  We feel that we are heading in the right direction with the teams in this league and can be competitive.

General

All TAYB banquets will be held on Saturday, April 4th.  Kathy Garvis organized the banquet.

We have approval from the Town and Middle School for use of the gym in May for 8 nights to hold a clinic(3rd-8th graders).  Board agreed to make the cost $10.00 instead of $15.00.  Therefore there will be no shirt given to participants.  We will hold initial signups at the banquets on Saturday.  Suggestions for a possible summer program are welcome

Division coordinators need to notify coaches to turn in uniforms and equipment at end of the season banquets.

We have checked into use of other local gyms for future practice time with no success (or there are cost issues).  Tim suggested starting practices next year at the Middle School at 5:00 or 5:30 and the last practice running until 9:30, to get 3 practice sessions in per night.

Clinic - Is over with a successful year.

1st-2nd grade in-house program is over with a successful year.

3rd-4th grade in house - Issue was raised about allowing zone defense next year and also about referees.  This will be discussed again in the near future.

5th-8th grade in-house -  Board voted for no post-season tournament.

MYBA travel teams did very well.  MYBA season is now over.

CCBL teams have improved over the last month.  Double elimination tournament will begin on Monday 3/16.  Issue was raised that the league may have to raise registration fee for CCBL players to cover cost to be in the league.

General

Tim ordered trophies for the end of season banquet.  Travel players will get a trophy only for their travel team.  All TAYB banquets will be held on Saturday, April 4th.

Chris Schoberg, Andrew, and Samaria will head up a spring clinic to be held in the Middle School gym during the Month of May.  Chris will hand in use-of-facility forms to the Town soon requesting Tuesdays and Thursdays for 4 weeks.  Plan is to group 3rd-5th graders for basic fundamentals and 6th-8th graders for advanced fundamentals.  Will need volunteers for registrations at the end of season banquets.  $15.00 was suggested for cost.  The town will work with us on the use of outside courts for a summer program.

Nominations for TAYB board positions will be held in April, and elections will be in May.

Division coordinators need to notify coaches to turn in uniforms at end of the season banquets.

Clinic - Mt. St. Mary's will be at clinic on 2/21 from 9:45-11:30 (It was agreed that TAYB will give $150.00 each to Mount coaches Kevin and Dan for their help in all of this season's clinics.

On 2/28 the clinic kids will play games.  This is the last day.

1st-2nd grade in-house program is going well.

3rd-4th grade in house - Middle school gym is available on 2/28 for 1st round playoffs from 3:00-6:00.  It is also available on 3/6 from 6:00-7:30 or 3/7 from 4:30-6:00 for championship game.

5th-8th grade in-house teams have started games.  May be able to use the gym at Carroll Lutheran School for some practice time.  Probably will have to pay for the gym.

MYBA travel is going well.  Tournament begins the last week of February.

CCBL teams are struggling.  It is agreed that more practice time is needed for improvement.

General

February 24th is "Rec Night" at FSK High School.  TAYB players and coaches can get in for free with uniform.  It will be FSK's girls JV and Varsity vs. Brunswick and begins at 5:30.

Clinic players have been contacted and clinics are starting this week.

1st-4th grade in-house teams have been practicing since beginning of December.  Uniforms have been handed out.  Games begin next weekend.

There is a possible issue with the in-house playoff schedule and the elementary school.  We will discuss further at the next meeting.

5th-8th grade in-house teams have started practice.

All travel teams are well into their game schedules.  The $10.00 travel fee still needs to be collected from parents as soon as possible if it hasn't already.

General

Shooting jerseys are in and coaches are handing out to players prior to this weekends games.

Pictures are this Saturday, January 10th.  Picture schedule has been distributed to all coaches and Pictures-R-Us.

Spiritwear forms, Mt. St. Mary's game forms, and Knights of Columbus free-throw competion forms will be distributed at picture time.

Knights of Columbus will hold their annual free-throw competition on Sunday, January 18th @ 3:00.  They need a table, chairs, and a microphone.

Tickets will be reserved for the January 24th Mount St. Mary's game vs. Monmouth for TAYB families.

(5) Background checks have been completed.  (2) more applications were received in which background checks need to be done.

Need to change billing address on Kroll account to TAYB's P.O. Box.

5th-8th grade in-house players start on Sunday December 7th.  Evaluations will be held from 12:15 - 2:15 (5th-6th graders) and 2:30 - 4:30 (7th-8th graders) then placed on a team.  Practice will start the following Sunday for in-house teams.

All travel teams start games this weekend (Dec. 5th-7th).  Travel coaches need to collect the extra $10.00 travel fee from parents as soon as possible.

General

Shooting jerseys are to be ordered as soon as coaches get sizes and names turned in.

The picture date of December 13th was changed to January 10th.  A schedule will be handed out as soon as CCBL completes their schedule for that day.

Pictures-R-Us can do all teams in (1) day, approximately 245 kids.

Knights of Columbus have requested the Middle School gym for (2) Sundays in January for their annual free-throw competition.  TAYB will accomodate them the best we can for the times requested.  TAYB schedule will be revised to do so.  The Elementary School would not open on Sundays.

Tickets will be reserved for the January 24th Mount St. Mary's game vs. Monmouth for TAYB families.

Elementary School gym floor is slippery and is again an issue.  It will be brought to the school's attention.

It was agreed to pay the referees $35.00/each for MYBA and 5th-8th grade in-house games

Background checks will be completed within the next 1-2 weeks.

There will be coaches/referee training at the elementary school on Dec. 15th @ 6:00 p.m.

 The committee voted and approved joining the Carroll County Basketball League for 5th - 8th grade travel teams.
Approval was also given for Chris Smith to pursue joining the Monocacy Youth Basketball Association (MYBA) for 3rd/4th grade travel teams.
The following details were provided about the MYBA:  Practices can start not before November 1st, games begin around December 1st,provide own refs, play Saturdays and/or Sundays.  Northwest Middle School will be home court, travel players can also play on in-house teams

 Mike Stoner will notify Northwest Middle of our intent to use the gym on Sundays.  The intent is for in-house teams to play on Sunday's from 1:00-5:00.  5th-8th graders mix together including travel players for an 8 week playing schedule.
Runnymede Elementary School is to be contacted this month to discuss the use of their gym for practices.
Taneytown Elementary School will be contacted about the safety of their gym floor.

 Basket Bingo has been scheduled for Saturday, October 18, 2008. 
Approximately 18 registrations were received on 1st night of sign-ups.
Mike Stoner has looked into the cost of new uniforms.  Uniforms with screen printed jerseys would cost $80.00 and are expected to last 10 years.
These jerseys are not reversible.  Mike is exploring other options as well for new uniforms.

November 18th with be 3rd and 4th grade tryout days – coaches and players must attend

Uniforms – Mike will order uniforms for 6 1st and 2nd teams and for 6 3rd and 4th teams (12 teams in all) 6 different colors and 10 uniforms for teams.  Any additional will be used next year.  This guarantees we have uniforms for picture day and also uniforms can be handed out and day 1 of practice.

Division coordinates should begin to set coaches and plan on having them attend the November and December meetings.  PreK-4th Grade coaches MUST attend the December meeting.  At that meeting the Asst. Principal will come in and lay out the expectations this year.

6:30pm doors open for fall registration and open gym.  Clinics begin at 7:00pm.

60 registrations have been received for the upcoming season and Paul imputed them all into the new software registration system.

Basket Bingo –

  • Permits are taken care of
  • Still need to find someone to call the numbers

  • If you are anyone you know wants to provide Bake Sale items please let Shari know as well
  • 13 of 26 baskets are filled and ready

  • We will need 6-10 people at 2pm to begin setting up

Motion to buy 12 – 27.5 Basketballs from Dunham Sports for 9.99 a piece was accepted.  These will be used at the Basketball clinic and then in the 1st – 4th grade season.  Tim will pick these up.  Need to sort through the old 27.5 balls that Jeff Engel has.

All old TAYB basketballs will be donated to Taneytown Elementary school.

Photographer – Pictures ‘R’ Us – Paul will check on a December picture date with a backup date set in January.

9/27 and 10/4 will be open gym for 5th - 8th grade boys.  Word of mouth will be used to announce.

The proposed draft TAYB Constitution and By-laws changes were reviewed, discussed, and final comments were made by the people present in the August TAYB meeting.  The new TAYB Constitution and By-laws were approved by unanimous vote during the meeting.  New document will be sent with the minutes.

Software registration program was procured by Paul Arnold for $189 and will be setup prior to registration.

June 14, 2006 at the Taneytown Police station at 7pm revised background checks forms will be discussed.  (This may change since the Taneytown parade is this day)

Basket bingo is set for October 7, 2006 at the Taneytown activates building price is $350 for the building, and $25 for the machine a $100 deposit will have to be applied.  Contract is due back by June 30, 2006.  Flyers to be handed out for registration will need to be drafted.  Also a letter to get local businesses to sponsor will have to be drafted.  Mike Stoner will provide Shari with a list of the contacts of the local businesses.

Two other notes – a fireman will have to call the numbers, and only 200 tickets can be sold for the event.

June 19, 2006 the Board will meet to discuss the proposed by-laws changes.  These will be sent out not later than June 21, 2006 to be reviewed during the July 5, 2006 meeting.

Registration dates for August will be August 19 and August 26 from 9:00am – 11:00am at Kennies and Food Lion.  Tim will coordinate with Kennies and Chris will coordinate with Food Lion.

Secretary’s Report was read and approved.

Basketball uniforms and balls need to be collected from 2 teams.  Paul volunteered to store Basketball equipment at his house.  Thus the thought of getting a storage facility was dropped.

Tim, Tony, and Mike S need to coordinate to change the checking account signature card.  While at the bank they will also check with the bank on what it takes to do a financial audit.

Summer Basketball league due to the timing of this year this issue will tabled in the one of the winter meetings to discussion on a 2007 summer league.  Gym availability will be one of the first issues to address.

Does the board want to consider a Basketball clinic with Malon Brown prior to the beginning of the season?

Software registration program ($180) was brought up for motion for procurement and passed with unanimous approval.  Tim will send information on the program to Paul and Chris for a little more research on licensing agreements.

P.O. Box money is due in August.  Need to track Vicki down for the key.

Board members will review and modify the current by-laws and present a draft for group review at least 2 weeks prior to the July 5, 2006 meeting.  Sheila will provide Tim a soft-copy of the current by-laws.

Chris will look into how to change the Employer ID number info from Tony to Tim.

Banquet comment box was opened and comments read aloud. 

Girls 3rd and 4th grade teams being segregated was discussed.  Issue will be brought up after the by-laws modifications.

Basketball registration will be set for end of August to beginning of September.  Next person to see Vicki please track down the registration forms.

Basket Bingo fund raiser committee will be formed with Shari Norris taking the first initiative to get it moving.  Tentative time is the 3rd or 4th weekend in September.  Paul is checking on the price and availability of the Activities Building.

New monthly meeting night was set to the 1st Wednesday of the month at 7pm.  This will take effect in July.  That meeting will be July 5th, 2006 at 7pm.

The June meeting is set for June 8th, 2006 at 7pm.
